Pass Potatoes - only if

Please pass the potatoes,
if there is more, if not,
keep the empty
plate,

I will not try and consume
what isn't there, I'll check
my turn and simply
wait.

It's my manners that bid me
well, I have garnered many
a new found friend or
two,

To be a glutton is not my fate,
I shall ration every hope I
have and give some to
you.
