Quatrain of Corn Mother
Mythical figure among North
American Indian Tribes
Sacrificially faint, rubbing corn
from her body where few hands
go,
Fostering children along the
trails of the hungry, out on the
plateau.
Corn Mother, acting to preserve
the Spirit, staring death in the eye,
Chased from the wilderness
when discovered, she was born
of a lie.
