Quatrain of Juneteenth
Juneteenth - also known as
emancipation day - slaves in Texas
were not informed of their
emancipation until two years
after the fact.
Two more years a slave,
no one said a word -
not even one rock
thrown,
Then one day a soldier
arrived to say I was
free as he tossed a
stone.
My heart raced to my head,
I cried as though
life had just
started,
It was June nineteenth,
the day my Master and
me, finally
parted!
