Quatrain of Kakapo Memories
Kakapo - owl parrot
1.
O, strange legislative bird, with
the elegance of a penguin, a
walk akin to a
duck
But no, you are an owl just
short of smart genes and
out of guileless
luck.
You remind me of friends I
once had before I faced
the back side of
shame,
Now they are gone and what
is left are kakapo memories
from a dying
brain.
2.
I voted for change, but
all I got was tickled
by a smooth
feather,
I had hoped the policies
of the past could be shaped
to fit politically foul
weather,
But the bitterness grew as
I reached for agreements
to solve mounting
distrust,
And in the end freedom was
abandoned, I was left to
nest with a kakapo in vile
disgust.
