Quatrain of Kickapoo
American Indian
With raised fist, a tear in the eye,
they fought to retain their
land,
History was cruel and flood of
new thought posed bane
demand.
Farming and hunting, scavenging
the land, a hallowed pagan
call,
All the Kickapoo knew; all they
wanted, could not prevent their
fall.
