Quatrain of Mescal-Button Blues

Mescal-Button - Peyote

O, hallucinating rendezvous with
my face abandoned along a
petulant roadside so long
ago,

Where has the fresh beauty gone
that was painted with God's
skilled hands, warmly
aglow.

I was so young when I took my
first draw, but since the vapor
has cleared, my world is
amiss,

What I see and what may be real,
are so different, my presence
will be God's turn to
dismiss.

2.
Shame has swept over the plains
stretching up to heaven, past
ideas that have not
matured.

Depression is holding me in an
apprehensive pickle, as
loneliness travels about
unsecured.

I wasted my life accumulating
power and controlling the
world surrounding my tiny
thinking,

Now I am faced with the reality
of riding the mescal-button
blues along a road that is
shrinking.
