Quatrain of Philip III
Philip The Good
Duke of Burgundy
Died 1467
Walk the narrow and lonely path of foiled dreams and expunged ideas, shamefully laid bare,
Wash your hands of toil; allow your soul to drift up into a cloud of ingratiated pomp and flare.
Live the grand life, and dare Reason with your nagging unwillingness to find ethical value,
Alas! lace your childhood with a peasant's breath while drinking sweat from those who despise you
