Quatrain of Phillippe I, duke de' Orleans
Regent of France for King Louis XV, 1715
The wealthy, wandering past possibilities
of the meager rube,- shunning any
strength of the worthy
peasant,
Allowed evil intent of foreign rivals to
threaten the Regent and ban all
hint of the coming
enlightenment.
Awaiting emulsified trepidation, Phillippe I
ignored sorrowful birth marks of
newborn souls put up for
rent.
All that remained was the ruins of the
Regent's mournful awakening -
foolishly and everlastingly
spent.
