I manipulated my conscience
like a third grader,
just to curry a
favor,

I wanted to tell myself I was
good person, while
trying not to
waver.

If I were to be up front, I would
realize my soul is
not worthy of
friendship,

I have to manipulate who I am,
in order for those passing
by might have a safe
trip.
