Quatrain of Maryland
Maryland (1788)
O! I stand on the Chesapeake
and carefully watch the
inside of my mind's
eye,
The wonder of the landscape
eats up the brilliance found
in a blue crab
sky.
With a grasp of freedom's
values firmly planted
in my soul so
transparent,
I belong to Maryland, it is
my life's blood, it is
my spirit duly
inherent.
