Quatrain of Nebraska
Nebraska (1867)
My soul swept over the Great Plains
as though the amassed energy
could quell a holy
appetite,
I live to glean righteous glory from
people who work and play; when
the governed know what's
right.
Enlightenment ! I ask so little of government servants and hope
to be left to my own
devices,
Nebraska is where I go if I wish
to smell personal liberty and
not change Freedom's
prices.
