Quatrain of Oklahoma
Oklahoma (1907)
From farms to oil, from famine
to the luxuries of wealth
untold.
I am a proud Okie, made of grit
and strapped with a spirit
so bold,
I once conquered the weather,
let the sun burn the wrath of
prejudice that hung
around my neck,
I found humility blowing in the
Oklahoma air; bought my place
on earth with a
spiritual check.
