Quatrain of Arkansas
Arkansas (1836)
O! I politely ask, did the
devil get slapped after
the pilgrim's
plight?
This land was settled with
sweat from the brow
of men who could
fight.
With scenery to catch and
respect for all creatures
smart and
shallow,
I shall live my life as though
where I am I cannot be
deemed as swamp
mallow.
