Quatrain of South Dakota
South Dakota (1889)
I walk on the prairie plains and
try to come to a fossilized
grip on how I got
here,
I fought the Indian in ruthless
battle, challenged the wind
and made it
disappear.
I carved the mountains with heads
of the American tale to
idolize a great
nation,
I will always be grateful for the
wonders of democracy while
living in God's
creation.
