Whisper To Me - better than nothing

I heard your soul whispering to me,
it always sounded very
sweet and
tender.

It was a sound I longed to hear
every day, but for you
there was no
surrender.

I respected your wish to remain
quiet, but it hurt never
knowing if you
cared,

If I hadn't been such a love brawler,
perhaps there could have
be more than a whisper
shared.

Over the years I came to respect
your true, affectionate
longings, and fun
taunts,

I listened to you in mellow tone and
in whispering silence, but I
could never hear your
wants.

Alas, better to share a bit of silence
than to have nothing come
of our earthly
meeting.

Perhaps in the next life you and I will
speak to each other; find what
we missed, have a life worth
repeating.
